HALE CENTRE THEATRE LAUNCHES HOLIDAY CAMPAIGN TO HELP REBUILD HAITIAN MEDICAL CLINIC

Proceeds from Sales of Commemorative Christmas Cards to Benefit Salt Lake-Based “Healing Hands for Haiti”

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (Nov. 22, 2010)Hale Centre Theatre (HCT), Utah’s premiere family theatre, is launching “Healing Greetings,” a campaign to help fund rebuilding the medical clinic and orphanage operated  by Salt Lake City-based “Healing Hands for Haiti.” HCT will donate all proceeds from the sale of one-of-a-kind Christmas cards to the organization, which is reconstructing facilities destroyed in the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

“When we were choosing a cause to support this year, our hearts went out to our friends in Haiti, especially after the earthquake,” said HCT co-founder and executive producer Sally Dietlein. “We knew we had to help.”

The theatre raised more than $10,000 for the Salt Lake City-based “Healing Hands for Haiti” through its 2007 “Hope for Haiti” campaign. HCT will again support the organization to enable doctors and volunteers to rebuild facilities and resume critical care for children in Haiti.

Local artist Caitlin Willey, who designed a series of Christmas cards based on HCT’s “A Christmas Carol” over the past several years, donated her time and talents to create a poignant “Tiny Tim” card for “Healing Greetings.”

“When Dickens wrote ‘A Christmas Carol,’ he was writing for the poor man’s child,” said Dietlein. “We can’t be a ‘Scrooge’ and really live. We are all responsible for caring for each other.”

For the past 25 years, HCT has taken an active role in bettering the community. Founded in Glendale, Calif., in 1947 by Ruth and Nathan Hale, HCT is a unique, center-stage theatre. When the Hales retired to Salt Lake City in 1985, they joined with their daughter and their grandson and his wife in establishing a second location and earned a loyal following. The theatre was eventually donated to the citizens of Utah as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization and moved into a city-owned $8 million facility in West Valley City. Today, HCT continues to enrich the lives of those who participate and attend.

HCT is located at 3333 South Decker Lake Drive in West Valley City. To purchase “Healing Greetings” holiday cards, visit the box office or call 801-984-9000. Information about shows and ticketing is available online at www.halecentretheatre.org.
