WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (November 2007) – Hale Centre Theatre, Utah’s premiere family theatre, today announced the opening of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” which will run Dec. 3 through Dec. 22.
HCT’s “A Christmas Carol” will feature the music, actors, sets and effects which have made the production a holiday tradition. “A Christmas Carol” will employ the theatre’s flying system, which allows the Ghost of Christmas Past to fly as depicted in Dickens’ original text. HCT also has refreshed the production’s costuming as well as some of its sets including the graveyard.
“We have worked to enhance ‘Carol’ while maintaining the true essence of the story,” said Mark Dietlein, HCT executive producer. “Our goal is to produce the piece in a fashion that is true to Dickens’ original tale of Scrooge’s redemption.”
HCT’s production will feature a script which was refined in 2006 by combining the best of more than 40 years of various HCT and Glendale Centre Theatre scripts along with Dickens actual text. This included the reading versions of “A Christmas Carol”the author used in giving public performances.
HCT’s “A Christmas Carol” also will feature composer Barlow Bradford’s original score which captures the traditional music of the period while augmenting Dickens’ carol choices and original dance and underscore melodies.
Dickens scholar and purist, Richard Wilkins will return from working abroad for the government of Qatar to star in the role of Scrooge for the 23rd straight year. He will be double cast with David Weekes.
HCT’s “A Christmas Carol” is directed by John Sweeney. Along with Wilkins, Tom Stam, who plays the Ghost of Christmas Present, will mark his 23rd year in the show dating back to the 1985 debut of HCT’s “A Christmas Carol.” Brad Charon and Gary Ceran are double cast as Bob Cratchit; Caitlin E.J. Meyer and Ashley Petersen as Ghost of Christmas Past; with Eric Armstrong and Josh Richardson as Jacob Marley. The production’s musical director is Anne Puzey with choreography by Marilyn May Montgomery and production assistance from Kande Shackelford.
